| I am considering getting insulated vinyl siding installed. The information on the manufacturers web site states all of the pros but I would like to know the cons. Does it really stand up to their insulation claims? Does it really deaden outside noise as they claim? Anyone have experience with insulated vinyl siding that they can share? |

| Were you able to get any answers to your questions? I'm curious are you also installing Tyvek type wrap and insulation board under the insulated siding? What brand siding are you considering? |

The answer to your question is yes and no. Yes it will deaden some sound over aluminum siding. No... it will not stand up to most of their claims, especially when it comes to energy efficiency. The R-values given for their siding backers are for the backer product itself which is typically expanded polystyrene or an extruded polypropylene. It does NOT add that R-value to your wall or envelope. When any insulation product is given a rated R-value it is in a controlled environment in a lab with zero moisture, zero airflow and zero compression or voids. Any of these factors will drop it's R-value like a hot rock. The primary benefit of any insulated panel is for rigidity which allows for a wider panel. |

Very good information here. Especially considering the R-Value wars that are raging in the Foam Back siding worlds. |

Please provide some data to validate that R-5.3 claim. |

Jeffzy, the best thing to do is to do a research about it..I had the same before and after many trials I gathered my needed information regarding siding repair.
I found it at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xeh7fg_siding-repair-kingwood-tx-kingwood_people
You can also download an ebook they give for free that tells you the 7 big and expensive mistakes homeowners make. It's a really interesting topic and will help you most, especially when you want to hire someone for your house repair or renovation such as siding replacement.
Try it, but I also suggest you search elsewhere too, then you decide which really fit your needs. _________________ rcl |
